The Bass Studio of Kyle Olmstead
This is the primary focus during the lesson. Solo playing provides a good platform for technique and ear training, and is also a lot of fun.
Orchestral playing requires a very different approach from solo playing.
Jazz and Rock
One of the great things about bass is how it is involved in almost every musical form. Jazz and/or rock is a part of most lessons.
Outside of the Studio
As musicians, we must constantly look for inspiration. Gary Karr, Edgar Meyer, Francois Rabbath, Edwin Barker, Jimmy Blanton, Charles Mingus, and Paul Chambers are just a few of the bassists that have inspired me.
